Hi there,
We are officially in summer. It’s over 80 degrees almost every day. Next week is July.
In good news, I’ve seen some real movement on the garden-front. I spotted my first tomatoes starting to grow, and by the looks of things, I’m on my way to getting some cucumbers, peppers, and squash. My herbs are thriving. Nothing brings me more joy than cutting herbs and kale from the garden to eat. Do I secretly want to move to the countryside and start my own farm like in Stardew Valley? Absolutely. Give me a few years and maybe I will.
If you have garden updates on your end, please feel free to send them along! I love showing off my garden and my mom only gives heart reacts when I send her pics.
Do you want to embark on an epic journey through a wartorn 1600s Korea? Do you want to have your heart broken a million times? Do you want to learn about history? If you answered yes to any of these questions, do I have the show for you. My Dearest follows noblewoman Gil Chae as she tries to survive the Qing invasion of Joseon, while also trying to stay connected to a mysterious Lee Jang-Hyun. Honestly, when I had held off watching this show because everyone online said it would break your heart. But then I just had to watch it. It was worth it, and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since I finished.
All the Lovers in the Night by Mieko Kawakami
I really enjoyed this short novel about a proofreader who sets off to change her life when she realizes she is in a rut. The book is more character-driven, and honestly doesn’t have much plot, but instead ruminates on loneliness. It’s beautifully written, and I actually found it to be quite a quick read. It’s worth a read if you’ve never read any books by Mieko Kawakami, who is probably more known for her novel Breast and Eggs, which is next on my list to read by her.
The swimming trials have wrapped up, but the Track and Field ones are in full swing! Sha’Carri Richardson! Athing Mu! Noah Lyles! Fred Kerley! I can’t stop watching!
If Track and Field isn’t your bag, maybe try the gymnastics trials later this week. Simone Biles is set to do amazing things in the Olympics this summer, and this is the last step on her way there.
