Hello, hello,
I’m always in the mood for a good romcom. Sometimes I’m in the mood for a bad romcom. It’s the perfect genre! And I’m very happy to see there is a resurgence happening! Similar to how raunchy teen comedies have started to make a comeback (from a more feminine perspective), romcoms seem to be having a real moment. Let’s celebrate it!
The internet told me this could be the next Squid Game. The hype was worth it, you guys. Moving is so good. The writing! The acting! The characters! There is so much to love here, I kid you not. Please, please, if you’re looking for a new show, this is worth your time. Okay, yes it is about superheroes, but like…barely. It’s mostly a spy drama!
First of all, please read the novel by David Nicholls. It is so good. Then, ignore the Anne Hathaway movie from like 2011. Sorry, Annie, but this new Netflix adaptation is so much better. It’s all about the longing and banter, and this show has it all. The chemistry! The heartbreak! I’m obsessed, I watched it in one day (14 half hour-ish episodes). Both the leads are incredible. The ending is a little rushed in my opinion, but I can excuse that because everything leading up to the end was really excellent.
It happened. I succumbed. I started watching Vanderpump Rules. I can’t imagine not watching this show now, and I’m only halfway through the second season. Did you guys know this is actually about a restaurant, kind of? These people are wild! They are so mean to each other! Lisa keeps saying she can’t fire them, but they are maybe ruining her business by yelling at the workplace. Clearly this works though, since there are many seasons. Does anyone watch this? Please, I need to talk about it.
I was skeptical about this movie, but I found it pretty charming. Another win for the Riverdale crowd! Camila Mendes plays an unpaid intern at an art auction company (?) and she gets to go to London (?) to help her boss. Again, she is unpaid. But her character has an MA in art history, so she’s smart-ish. Anyway, she gets upgraded in her flight and has a meet-cute in first class with a hunky British man who says he works in marketing but not once do we see him work. We see him hang out with his aristocrat mom. I didn’t question it. Romcoms are my favorite fantasy genre! It’s good!
Also, for the girlies, our hunky British lead is Archie Renaux, who is extremely tall next to Camila Mendes. He’s charming and fun! He coaches youth soccer (not his job)!
