Hello, hello,
Things are very bleak these days. I feel like every day I learn about a new horror. I’ve stopped scrolling online and have downloaded various phone games to occupy my mind instead. I’ve also spent a lot of time watching TV, which has always been a great comfort to me. I hope you’re able to find similar comfort here this week.
Quick reminder to remember to go outside! It’s spring! The sun is out! Flowers and trees are in bloom (my nose is very aware)!
See you next week!
I loved Aimee Lou Wood in The White Lotus (RIP to her character. This isn’t a spoiler, you’ve either seen it by now or read about it online). It was nice to see her take on a fuller role in Toxic Town, and share the screen with Jodie Whittaker and Claudia Jesse. The trio play mothers who have children with mysteriou. s birth defects and their fight to get justice for the local pollution causing these issues. It’s also based on a true story, if that’s what you’re into.
Loved this show about Navajo police trying to solve a murder in the 1970s. Zahn McClarnon is incredible. For the Twilight fans, we have a former werewolf playing an FBI agent. For some reason, George R.R. Martin is an executive producer. The man will do anything but sit down and write his book.
Oh, and all the writers are all Indigenous, so you know it’s good. You might recognize a few names and faces from previous recommendations Rez Ball and Reservation Dogs.
I’m an Amy Sherman-Palladino fan. She’s my Aaron Sorkin, which means I will watch everything she makes even if I hate it. Good news, I don’t hate Etoile (even though there are some parts of the show I find quite self-indulgent). I actually love ballet! Amazon clearly also wants to see this show succeed since they gave it a two season order already. Unheard of in this day and age!
Come for Charlotte Gainsbourg and Luke Kirby doing a great job with the quick dialogue, stay for all the French-accented English (weirdly hilarious to me) and the dancing. Try to ignore some of the more annoying bits if you can. If you’re looking for something a little more in line with Gilmore Girls, might I recommend Bunheads? Terrible title, but great show!
I’ll watch anything with Lee Dong-wook in it. It’s almost always a great time! And he doesn’t disappoint in The Divorce Insurance, where he plays a thrice-divorced actuary trying to sell divorce insurance. Is it silly? Absolutely. Is it delightful? Very much so!
Algorithms are bad. I’m anti-AI. Get out of here with that nonsense!! Here’s a longform about the way algorithms continue to hurt the most vulnerable members of society. It’s not a fun read.
